Whether or not you’re setting New Year Resolutions in 2021, we could all use a boost of energy to tackle this next year. There are so many pieces that go into cultivating a healthy energy level: quality of sleep, stress level, exercise/movement, hydration, quality of food you consume, etc. There are also hundreds of supplements that can help support your body to produce healthy energy levels. One of my favorite ways to support my energy level is with aromatherapy. Diffusing specific essential oils at various times of the day can help me relax, improve my mood, decrease my stress, and give me the boost of energy I need when the afternoon slump hits. Here’s how to use aromatherapy to improve your energy levels. Peppermint to Promote Energy When starting a new exercise program—or even just when the 3 p.m. collapse comes around—I need all the encouragement I can get to get going. Aromatherapy is one of the best ways to give your energy a quick boost. Peppermint is my go-to. Diffusing peppermint essential oil can help me clear my head and energize me to go do whatever is on my list. Try a couple drops of Belle Aroma® 100% Pure Organic Peppermint Essential Oil in a FlashScent® USB Aromatherapy Diffuser anytime you need an energy boost. Lavender for Supported Sleep Energy requires rest and recovery. Support healthy sleep and relaxation with Lavender essential oil. Lavender is often called the “Swiss Army” oil because it has so many uses! Diffuse a few drops of Lavender essential in your Ultrasonic Diffuser at night to help you relax. Lavender may help increase melatonin levels to help you fall asleep with ease. Lavender is also a great oil to add to a bath for a relaxing, aromatic soak. Try Belle Aroma 100% Pure Organic Lavender Essential Oil. Sweet Orange and Lemongrass to Reduce Stress Reduce your stress level to help promote healthy energy. The sweet smell of orange is uplifting and can help reduce stress when diffused. When life gets especially stressful this new year, diffuse a few drops of Sweet Orange and a few drops of Lemongrass essential oils to help calm your anxiety. Sweet Orange essential oil may also help to promote better exercise performance. Diffuse during your at-home workout. Lemongrass essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties. Add it to a post-workout bath to help promote recovery. Try Belle Aroma 100% Pure Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil and Belle Aroma 100% Pure Organic Lemongrass Essential Oil. I hope you have all had a fantastic holiday season, and cheers to an energized New Year! If I’ve learned anything from the year 2020, it is the importance of being true to who I am. Life is way too short to be anyone other than exactly who I am. And that lesson has had me asking myself a lot of important questions about how to show my personality in every aspect of my life. I’ve been thinking about my personal style and trying to make small shifts in my home decor, clothing, etc. One of the things I’ve figured out is my signature fragrance combination! Do you, be you with fragrances that fit your personality and style! Happy New Year! Kate Healy for TheGiftofScent.com Via https://www.thegiftofscent.com/collections/do-you-be-you-with-fragrances-that-fit-your-personality-style/ By the time Christmas comes around after the rest of the holiday festivities each year, my nervous system is taxed. Between shopping, cooking, family events, travel, and the general stress of the season, I’m in need of a spa day. Massage, facial, body scrub, pedicure, manicure…I’d love it all. While I would love to receive a spa day as a gift, it rarely makes my final list for Santa. Why? Because I can so easily make my own spa experience at home with bath and body products, candles, and fragrance products from The Gift of Scent! Here’s how to give yourself the full spa experience from the comfort of your home! Pamper Your Tired Feet:The first thing I do to start my spa day is to pull out my warming foot bath. I fill it with water, add ¼ cup of Epsom Salts, 3-4 drops of Belle Aroma® Pure Lavender Essential Oil, and a few tablespoons of coconut oil to the hot water. I also put on my Grapemist Cuddle Spa Neck Pillow after heating it in the microwave for a minute. I let my feet soak for 20-30 minutes, and then I use the “Miranda” Southern Sass Sugar Scrub with aromas of Peppermint and Vanilla to make my feet nice and soft before I do my pedicure.
Soak in a Hot Bath:Next, I start my full spa experience. There are a few things that I feel are key to a DIY spa experience: the fragrances of eucalyptus and flowers, cucumber and lemon in my water, and a hot, exfoliating bath. I use the Eucalyptus Scent Diffuser to get the bathroom smelling like the spa. I also light the Bisby Paris Candle for aromas of dark violet, jasmine, and rose. I then pour myself a glass of water with cucumber and lemon slices…and a glass of white wine, to assist in my relaxation efforts. Then, I soak in a hot bath with “I Am Abundant” Salt Soak and scrub with the Heartland Fragrance Vanilla Exfoliating Loofah Soap. I also listen to relaxing music, turn off the lights, and have only the candle and a set of white or pink Christmas lights to really round out the experience. Get Some Much-Deserved Rest:Then, once I’m fully relaxed, I get ready for a nap. I put two drops of Belle Aroma Pure Lavender Essential Oil and two drops of Belle Aroma Sweet Orange Essential Oil in my Wood Grain Orb Ultrasonic Essential Oil Diffuser on my bedside table. Then, I just put on my Embroidered Lavender & Chrysanthemum Sleep Mask and take a nice, long winter’s nap. Give yourself the pampering you deserve this holiday season with fragrance products from The Gift of Scent or give the gift of relaxation with the Relaxation Holiday Bundle. Via https://www.thegiftofscent.com/gift-ideas/diy-do-it-yourself-holiday-spa-experience/ I don’t know about y’all, but I could use a retreat to a cabin in the mountains right about now. After adjusting to the “new normal” of daily life and getting antsy hanging around at home, I just want to hole up in an idyllic cabin somewhere and disappear for a few weeks. But since travel restrictions are still in force throughout most of the country and I won’t be able to enjoy the idyllic country life anytime soon, I’m turning my apartment in the city into a cabin in the woods…aromatically! Here’s how: DIY Fire PlaceOne thing I look for in an Air BnB listing for a cabin in the woods is a working fireplace…but since I’m living the apartment life, I don’t have a fireplace, so I’m creating one with this combo of fragrances: • In my Glitter Domes Santa Home Fragrancer, I diffuse Pine Grove Fragrance Oil and light my Montevideo Bisby Hand Poured Soy Candle. The candle gives me the flicker of the fire and aromas of embers, firewood, and wood smoke, and the Pine Grove Fragrance Oil makes me feel like I have a huge live Christmas tree and that I’m burning pine in the fireplace. DIY Mountain AtmosphereI love snuggling up under fuzzy, warm blankets in a cold room when I sleep. I can open the window and get the fresh air in my bedroom at home, but it doesn’t make me feel like I’m in the woods without a little help. So here’s how I get the feel of the mountain atmosphere in my cold room: • I add one Mountain Air No-Melt Fragrance Tart® and one Evergreen No-Melt Fragrance Tart® in my Branch ScenTrio® Wax Warmer so my bedroom has the fragrance of the crisp, woodsy mountains. DIY Cozy FeelI’ve got on my warm wool socks, oversized sweater, soft leggings, and hot chocolate in my mug, but to get as cozy as possible, I fill the rest of the apartment with my favorite holiday fragrances. • I diffuse Spiced Vanilla Fragrance Oil in my Glitter Domes Angel Home Fragrancer in the bathroom and Candy Cane Fragrance Oil in my Elf Hat Plugables® Electric Home Fragrancer in the hallway. • And in the kitchen, I put one Brown Sugar Biscotti No-Melt Fragrance Tart® and one Apple Orchard No-Melt Fragrance Tart® in my Gold Plugables® Fragrance Vase Wax Warmer. Create the getaway you crave, without leaving your home, with fragrance products from The Gift of Scent, or give the gift of a Holiday Giveaway with the Holiday Getaway bundle! Via https://www.thegiftofscent.com/gift-ideas/diy-cabin-in-the-woods-the-get-away-you-need-without-the-hassle/ Mentha x Piperita in Latin. We call it “peppermint,” a natural cross between water mint and spearmint. When the flowery parts of this hybrid plant are pressed and compounded, the emerging oils become the wonderfulness of peppermint essential oil (EO) used in the making of candy canes that pop up everywhere this time of year. Candy canes herald in good times, but the value of peppermint EO is way more than sight, taste, smell, and just one season. The nose-tickling component of menthol is the reason. It’s medicinal and therapeutic, helping to throw off congestion, bad breath, headaches, digestive issues*, bacterial infections, inflammation, fatigue, muscle and joint soreness, dandruff, hair loss, bugs, and more! Check out the “Nutritional Watchdog” online blog for a great article about the many uses of peppermint oil, with links to important studies and resources that support these claims. Peppermint’s menthol component is antibacterial and antimicrobial, so it works as a cleansing agent on counters and surfaces, making it a vital tincture to have in your “war chest” for every season. Add a few drops of peppermint oil to the water in an aromatherapy diffuser to “scrub” household air of impurities. The “Wood Grain Orb” Ultrasonic Essential Oil Diffuser or “Bamboo Lantern” Ultrasonic Essential Oil Diffuser, as sold on The Gift of Scent.com are perfect for this practice. These products can be found on the drop-down menu under the Diffusers and Warmers tab/Aromatherapy Diffusers+. There are also two brand-new diffuser products just added to The GiftofScent.com. They’re like nothing I’ve seen before. FlashScent® USB Diffuser brings aromatherapy right to desktops and laptops as it uses a USB connection. When you place a few drops of essential oil onto the included sachet pad, you have instant aromatherapy wherever you find a USB port in your immediate area. Another new fun product is the Scent Pendant aromatherapy car jewelry. Another filigree design for open airflow of aromatherapy with an oil-absorbent ceramic lotus inside. Totally artisan designed and made in Mexico. Place around vehicle rearview mirror. Check out the collection of aromatherapy diffusers at https://shop.thegiftofscent.com. A few words of caution on using peppermint oil: The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) cautions that it’s too strong for direct contact with mucous membranes, so don’t put it in your nose. And, before applying to skin, test a few drops on the underside of your forearm to determine whether you have a sensitivity to peppermint, or really, any essential oil before use. Also, Essential Oils Natural Remedies by Althea Press, states that peppermint oil is not recommended for children under age 6, during pregnancy, and for those who have epilepsy or acid reflux. But! (I almost forgot…) There’s another great use for this minty sensation. Memory and focus. When inhaled right from the bottle, airborne from a diffuser, or diluted with a carrier oil and applied to your chest, peppermint essential oil can sharpen your memory and focus. See. I didn’t forget; so, I think it works. Here’s to your health! No? Just Me? OK, maybe a better question is, how many of you WANT to be watching Hallmark Christmas Movies right now? That’s right, all of you! I’ve never been on set for a Hallmark Christmas Movie myself, but I don’t have to be there to know exactly what it would feel like. Here’s the recipe for a good (and somewhat cheesy) holiday movie:
Just mix it all together and add some hopeful and uplifting music—with some sleigh bells, of course! While I will, sadly, never star in a Hallmark movie, I love that I can create the feeling of being there with holiday fragrance combos from The Gift of Scent! I want my guests to get in the Christmas mood right when they enter my home, so I have a Snowy, Christmas Mountains scent by the front door:
Can’t forget the trip to Santa’s Village on the square of whatever small town the movie is set in! My bathrooms smell like Santa’s village:
Since I have the opposite of a green thumb—and pets who like to nibble on branches of real trees—I have an artificial Christmas Tree; so to get that Christmas tree fragrance I love:
And if you love the scent of a fireplace crackling, but don’t have a fireplace, put the Fireplace video from YouTube on and set out the Campfire Nights Truck Puck®. It’s not just for the truck. I like to bake some during the holidays, but I’m definitely not the baker my grandma is, so to get all the awesome fragrances I love in the kitchen, without the mess and effort, I use my Wax warmers and Plugables® Home Fragrancers:
And finally, since the holidays can be stressful (with the inevitable light family drama), I try to create a calming atmosphere in all the bedrooms:
I may or may not consistently walk around my house reenacting various scenes from my favorite Hallmark Christmas movies… Happy Holidays! Via https://www.thegiftofscent.com/collections/make-your-home-the-scent-of-a-hallmark-christmas-movie/ Is it better to give or receive? Over the ages, gift-giving has been a sign of friendship, love, admiration, or deep regard for the recipient. Three kings of middle eastern descent walked a long way with their gathered emulsions of gold, frankincense, and myrrh —tirelessly harvested distillations of precious metals, tree resins, plants, and herbs, to mark the tidings of the great joy they felt about a baby’s birth. The sight and smell of burning incense leave a lasting impression in rituals. Scent distilled into oils anoint a right-of-passage, a spiritual awakening, a nod to the reverence of special moments. When sent ahead, gifts of scent can express the excitement we feel for the specialness of an upcoming occasion or invitation. When Cleopatra wooed Mark Antony, she was sure to include fragrance in the mix, by having it fanned in the open air around her entourage arriving by boat. Today we call this aromatherapy. Mark brought the finest fragrance oils, to signal his intentions about the visit. Today we understand the beauty, health, and wellness effects of essential oils, as well as their important medicinal and therapeutic values. Scents wafting about your home make you the giver of the gift. Good smells are therapeutic. Put smiles on faces. Release endorphins. Relax and soothe us. Some smells have anti-bacterial, and antimicrobial properties, besides setting a mood for the precious time we have with family and friends. A gift of scent, in any form, is something special. It can harken to a time when all was well. Or say let’s make a new memory of our own. The smell of a harvest, an apple press at work, a pumpkin pie baking, spiced cider on the stove, a walk through a Christmas tree farm. Smell memories call to us, hitting the nodes of our emotions, our physics, and spirits. Better to give or receive? I say it’s a tie. After all, the principle really is, that it’s in the giving that we receive. And that’s love, baby. Happy everything, and please be safe.
